It’s official, Spring has sprung, and with it comes all the egg-citement of Easter! (Pre-warning: we love a cracking pun!).  The mornings are brighter, the evenings are stretching their legs, and you can actually feel the suns warmth on your face.  The daffodils are swaying, the lambs are bouncing, and Easter is just around the corner.  We think there’s no better time to pack a bag, shake off the winter blues, and hop over to South Winchester Lodges for a well-earned break.

Whether you’re in the mood for some hare-raising family adventures (we promise to keep the puns to a minimum… maybe) or you simply fancy a peaceful escape with birdsong and bluebells for company, we’ve got just the spot. Think scenic countryside walks, Easter egg hunts, and cosy pub lunches, all with the stunning Hampshire landscape as your backdrop

So, let’s crack on with some of the best ways to make the most of your Easter escape…

For some lovely all round family fun Big Easter Egg Hunt at Marwell Zoo covers all bases.  Not only is it a beautiful time to be outside and wander with a backpack full of snacks as you visit the wonderful creatures who reside there, kids can also take part in a rather fun egg hunt, win prizes and even have the opportunity to meet the Easter Bunny himself!  (For the mums and dads, there are cafes serving teas and coffees and a scattering of adventure playgrounds for the children to burn some extra energy in).

Winchester’s Science Centre and Planetarium is always a great way to while away the hours, whatever the season or reason for your visit.  This April there is an Eggs-travaganza Easter hunt (We were going to use that egg-spression but they beat us to it) – this is a hunt with a twist.  Gone are the days of simple chocolate eggs, this time you will be searching for eggs laid by animals from birds to spiders!  They really go that extra mile to make it egg-stra special!

So, having worked up an appetite, who’s turn is it to cook Easter Lunch?  Why not let someone else do the hard work this year?  How about someone at The Ivy Winchester Brasserie?  From a la carte to classic roasts and kid friendly menus.  The Hatch, just off Winchester high street is a casual, family friendly space that even do takeaways!  Greens Bar and Kitchen use only locally sourced ingredients, serving light bites, sumptuous brunches and hearty meals.  Whatever you choose to eat this Easter, Winchester has a huge amount of variety and even some Michelin Stars which you can peruse here!  So why not give yourself the time off, no ‘bunny’ will judge you!

There are wonderful trails to follow throughout Winchester, some right on our doorstep.  With the weather changing it’s a lovely opportunity to see Winchester in bloom, the sparse trees are now laden with leaves, nests are being built and the whole area comes to life with birdsong and bursts of daffodils.  Bishop's Waltham is a great place to visit, steeped in history and bursting with wildlife.  If you wanted to venture a little further out of town, Alresford is full of riverside walks, a post-card worthy Georgian town and of course the Cricket Club!  How’s thaaaaat!

Whether you prefer to spend your Easter in the throng of egg-hunts, activities and bunny meet-and-greets, or simply choose to follow the walking trails, enjoy a delicious lunch and meander your way back to your luxury lodge to enjoy a pamper treatment or two, we have you covered.  Ears to a hoppy Easter filled with fun, food, and plenty of chocolate!
